Uninsured Motorist Car Insurance

Car Insurance - Uninsured Motorist

Underinsured and/or Uninsured Motorist - Even though liability insurance is required by almost every state in the U.S. there are still many drivers who choose to drive without even minimum amounts of car insurance. As the saying goes, "a few people ruin it for everyone".

Uninsured Motorist - The Insurance Research Council (IRC) has suggested that nearly 15% of drivers in the US are uninsured. That means on average one motorist is uninsured for every 7 cars you see on your way to work! While it is true that if an uninsured motorist is at fault for an accident they are financially responsible for the damage done to your car it is also unlikely will have the money to do so. You could find yourself owed several thousand dollars that is being paid back to you by $50-100.00 monthly payments.

Underinsured Motorist - Underinsured insurance is similar to uninsured motorist in that it protects you from financial loss caused by lack of proper planning by another individual. If 6 of 7 drivers on the road are insured a good percentage of them are running with minimum levels of protection which may be far lower than the damage they caused you. Underinsured motorist insurance typically covers the amount of damage your property received and the level of coverage offered by the other drivers insurance policy.

Underinsured and Uninsured motorist insurance are not required in most states but it is a good idea to check into them. Both types of insurance vary somewhat from state to state so consider this description a rough guideline. Check with your insurance agent for the specific details of your local area.
